Programme notes

Pat Bancroft | director

Originally written for BBC television, Dennis Potters deceptively simple tale takes place in the Forest of Dean on a summer day during the Second World War.

As Potter says "The time is ‘real’ time, one incident alter another without the imposition or intervention of memory in the form of flashbacks, or premonition in the disguise of an interior thought", "without hindrance, contrivance, diversion or any kind of secondary plot".
