ABOUT MASQUE THEATRE

Production photo from Street Scene

Street Scene by Elmer Rice, performed in 1932, was the first production by the Northampton Drama League, which was later renamed Masque Theatre.

Masque Theatre is one of Northampton’s most vibrant and longest-established community theatre groups. Between October 2011 and August 2013, we are celebrating our 80th birthday.

Each year we perform six or seven productions at various venues including Northampton College, The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, The University of Northampton and The Playhouse Theatre.

Our annual summer open-air production in the courtyard of Abington Park Museum is a much-loved Northampton tradition.

For more than a decade, Masque Youth Theatre has been giving 10 to 19-year-olds acting workshops and experience of performance.

We are honoured to have as our patron, the popuar actor Lesley Joseph, who appeared with Masque Theatre in the 1960s.

Heart of the Community Award logoDuring our anniversary seasons, we will be staging a series of special events. In October 2012, a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre, Northampton, will mark the big day itself.

A lifetime of quality drama has put Masque Theatre at the centre of Northampton life. The group's importance to the town was highlighted in March 2011 when the Mayor of Northampton presented Masque Theatre and Masque Youth Theatre with a Heart of the Community Award.

We like to think that the quality of our productions is our hallmark, so we were delighted to be chosen by the Royal Shakespeare Company to join the RSC Open Stages theatre project. We will take part in a national programme of 'skills sharing events and showcases'.
